The Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services Department is hiring for multiple Custodians to perform maintenance duties throughout the different community centers and other facilities within the department. This position may be assigned to various locations and is responsible for keeping assigned public buildings in a clean and orderly condition. This is a part-time, non-exempt position.

Examples of Work May Include:

• Properly disposes of trash in the assigned dumpster and cleans trash containers; vacuums all carpeted floors; sweeps, dust, and mops all non-carpeted floor surfaces; operates buffing machine.
• Cleans bathrooms including commodes, urinals sinks, partitions and doors, shower stalls, and mirrors; sweeps and mops floors; replenishes supplies in the bathroom.
• Dust and wipe down all surfaces; sweep all entrance mats; clean all entrance glass, removing all visible fingerprints; clean water fountains; clean lounge areas.
• Dusts all door frames, vents, and blinds; cleans tile walls.
• Performs general maintenance and notifies management of any required major repairs.
• Makes sure the building is locked and secured after closing.
• Notifies supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
• Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

• One (1) year of experience in the cleaning and maintaining of commercial buildings preferred.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Requires the ability to understand and follow oral directions; operate a variety of general cleaning machines such as vacuums, buffers, and polishers; and ability to perform physically demanding work.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
• Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
• Required to possess a driver's license and satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
• Requires shift work to include working nights, weekends and some holidays.
